Let me tell you something, Balto. A dog cannot make this journey alone...but...maybe, a wolf can.
—Boris

Biology

Physiology

Boris is a Russian Snow Goose. He has white feathers covering most of his body, orange feet and beak and chocolate colored feathers on the tips of his wings. His bottom eyelids are blue and he has thick dark brown eyebrows. He appears to be rather old.

Personality

Boris is a very wise character. He at some points, it appears that he believes that some things are impossible, and at other times, he has great faith in Balto. He raised Balto from puppyhood, so he acts like a parent to Balto (and at times, also Muk and Luk). Boris is a funny character, and often generates comic relief for the other characters.

History

In Balto

In the first film, Boris plays a fairly major role. He was first seen with Balto, who wanted to see the end of the dog sled race, but Boris seemed uninterested. When Balto was being teased by Steele and the others, Boris tried to convince Balto to ignore it, and when Balto was upset about being part wolf, Boris tried to cheer him up.

When the race to select the dogs for the replay team was about to begin, Balto and Boris were seen standing on a fence behind the spectators. Balto announces that he is going to enter the race, and Boris told him that he was crazy - he's never make the team even if he did win. However, when Balto went to line up, Boris quietly wished him good luck, and when Balto was running, Boris yelled "Balto! GO!!". He was thrilled when Balto won.

When the announcement came through that the team had become lost and Balto decided to go and find them, Boris was at first against the idea. He kept trying to convince Balto that he would not succeed, but when Balto took him up to the hospital window and showed him just how sick Rosy had become, Boris changed his mind instantly and declared that he would accompany Balto on his search. However, Boris, along with Muk and Luk, was forced to return to Nome when Jenna became injured.

When Balto finally returned with the antitoxin, Boris was very proud of him, telling him that he was "not dog, not wolf - you're a hero!".
