Balto III: Wings of Change
From BaltoWiki
The films opens with Balto and his mate Jenna in the mountains, observing a bush plane piloted by Duke flying towards Nome. The scene displays Balto has a love for flying and his dreams are filled with ambitions of "soaring above the clouds". The film then shifts to Kodi, Balto's son who has a job as a sled dog delivering mail to and from Nome and White Mountain with his friends Kirby, Ralph and Dusty, whom he is suspected by many to have a crush on. Although he is serious about his job, he qoutes that he is "hoping to get a chance at lead dog", wanting to follow in his father's pawprints.
Duke lands in Nome one day and calls himself up to work for the US Mail, his plane to replace the sled dogs, which he believes is an ageing form of transport. News spreads around the town's dogs quickly, if the sled dogs lose their jobs they will become strays. A number of humans appear to be in favour of the sled dogs, and a race is decided. The first to deliver bags of mail between the two towns wins the job. The team call on Balto, whom they believe can help them win easily. Balto, however, feels that if he loses Kodi will disown him. After some persuasion from Jenna, he accepts the challenge and agrees to lead the team.
Meanwhile, Boris finds himself a new girlfriend by the name of Stella. Worried that she will dump him because of his fear of heights and inability to fly, Balto attempts to help him learn how to fly. In the end, Boris decides to lie to Stella and says he cannot fly because of a "migratory injury".
In the morning, the race is about to begin. Jenna wishes the team luck. Boris, however, has his lies foiled by Stella, who chases him into the bush plane's cargo hold, thus moving him to another town. The race begins, and the team makes it to White Mountain just before the bush plane does. Boris finds out where he is, and attempts to catch up with the team, but instead ends up having to climb back into the plane. Unfortunately, the plane drifts off-course and crashes somewhere between the two towns.
The team makes it to Nome and wins the race, claiming their supremacy over machinery. However, Balto is worried for the plane's fate, still unaware that Boris is within the wreck. Balto, along with Stella, Muk and Luk, sets out to find Duke and Boris, after Balto finds out Boris was on the plane. Kodi and the team scowls Balto for "helping the enemy" and refuse to aid him. Jenna shows anger for her son, accusing him of valuing his job over a life.
After overcoming near-drowning and a fight between two bull moose, they find Boris and Duke. Duke has a broken leg and Boris is nearly knocked out. Balto tells the three to take Boris back to Nome, while he stays and helps Duke. Duke makes a harness out of rope and a metal sheet, and Balto drags him back to Nome. They nearly fall off an ice bridge that crumbles as they walk across it, and if not for Kodi and the team's sudden help, they would have fallen to their deaths.
Balto and the team return to Nome, where he is once again seen as a hero. Duke, as a reward to Balto for saving his life, takes Balto on a flyby over Nome. It is most likely that Kodi's dream of being lead dog is also fulfilled. Stella also forgives Boris for lying, and joins him for a midnight swim.
